Favorite track: ODDS AND ENDS.

about

I have the pleasure to announce a DELUXE album, with my partner in USA, TIME RELEASED SOUND.
Only 50 copies, handmade, each one is different...
Just wait to know the price....
I'll inform you as soon as possible.

"The difference between desolation and sadness lies in the distance at which the one who has been lost stands. On each piece by Catherine Watine, the ear measures this progressive distance from memory and the comfort it provides. The space between the notes is sometimes so vast and filled with chasms, crackles and death-cheating sounds that it sometimes feels like being in a dream or invited to a seance. Wounded soldier gazing at the warm battlefield. Peasant walking in front of the smoky misty plain in the clear morning of a spring day. Lover who covers the bed unmade and abandoned by the one who stood there yesterday. Musician lost on the deck of the Titanic, while the canoes move away, like with Gavin Bryars, of whom one cannot help but think that the work of Catherine Watine is the feminine replica, like a mirage of beauty placed at our feet.
Our fingers touch those of the pianist who is playing. They slide on the vegetal ivory at the same time as her, so that we are both the ear and the hand that plays. Short Series of Arranged Piano resonates so intimately that it sometimes makes us believe that we are the author and that what we hear is playing inside us. It is no small wonder to be so close while sailing so far. We come here for the mystery.
We would imagine it like this: A curtain moves, fleetingly revealing a face behind a window. A diffused light draws the contours of her hair, shading the contrasts. She looks outside, unseen, tries to capture meaning in the random movements that punctuate this street that she stares at. Then goes back to translate his impressions on his piano. The curtain, the light, the window, the piano. Fixed elements, referring to an imaginary impossible to date. As if since Chopin or Debussy, the representation crystallized in a naturalistic painting, which would not forget to evoke a theme as major as it is timeless: loneliness.
But what loneliness? The one we pretend to flee or the one we are looking for? The one that refocuses or the one that disperses?
The one who skips in “Early days” on a keyboard that becomes nostalgic hopscotch, hesitating between earth and sky, body and mind? It must be no coincidence that “Folie Piano” seems to invoke the late Esbjörn Svensson, a pianist with an ingrained groove and celestial melodies. And since Catherine Watine likes to play with time, she takes the opportunity to have fun with eras and take us on a journey to romantic land in “Feels like a breath”, spinning the theme of breath and time on this sequence of final titles. Recalling that life is this short silence between two notes, between two hands.
While the left hand lays its foundations in the Earth, the right questions the sky. They meet to exchange their discoveries in the center of the keyboard before leaving to explore their borders. No border will stop them, because if they play in a frame, their combinations are endless. Especially since they are having fun with our best enemy. Because they understood, the hands, that making a friend of them was the key to infinity." (Florian Claude)
